In 2026, Scottie Scheffler is poised to make waves once again at the WM Phoenix Open, a tournament he has thrived in before. Having already secured two victories at TPC Scottsdale, Scheffler enters this event just ten days after celebrating his 20th win on the PGA Tour, a milestone that grants him a lifetime exemption to compete on the circuit. Additionally, he kicks off his 2026 season boasting four major titles, two of which he clinched the previous year.
However, Scheffler emphasizes that his recent triumph at the American Express is now behind him. He understands that there will be ample opportunities to prepare for the upcoming majors later in the season. This week, his primary focus is solely on the WM Phoenix Open.
"I’ve always found that I perform my best when I concentrate on the present moment and the tasks at hand," he expressed during a press conference, with his nearly two-year-old son, Bennett, seated nearby. "I put in a lot of effort to kick off the season well. My start at the American Express was promising. We had a chaotic week at home due to severe ice and snow, but I managed to get some practice in, and now I'm ready to compete again this week and in the following events on Tour. It's an exhilarating time, and I excel when I remain focused on improving a little each day."
While maintaining focus is essential throughout the Tour, it becomes especially crucial at this particular event, particularly on certain challenging holes like No. 16, which Scheffler eagerly anticipates tackling.
"I’ve always enjoyed these kinds of challenges," he noted. "This course shines during tournament play. It typically plays firm and fast, requiring a variety of shots and precise ball striking. Plus, the large crowds contribute to the atmosphere," he added enthusiastically. "Playing in front of such a massive audience is incredibly exciting. It can get a bit overwhelming at times, but overall, it's a blast."
Having competed at this venue six times previously, Scheffler is familiar with the layout and the enthusiastic fans, yet he still finds it awe-inspiring.
"It’s pretty wild," he remarked. "It’s a stark contrast to what we experience throughout the rest of the year, and I genuinely enjoy it. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that every professional golfer should have the chance to witness.
"It's amusing, too—when you’re flying in, you can spot all the buildings, and you immediately know where the golf course is located. It’s truly a spectacle."
